COACHING
Coaching for when life needs direction and a little guidance
What is coaching?
Coaching serves to help support people in their desired change and transformation. The coach partners with their client 'coachee', to aid their self understanding and facilite achieving goals, developing capabilities and moving forward.
The coaching goal will be unique to the person (and may even change with each session): It could be they have reached a ceiling in their career, are feeling unfulfilled and want to transform their life, but aren't sure which direction is right for them. Others may feel stuck in their 'mid-life' and looking for change, and need support in injecting new energy and meaning into their lives. Some will be struggling to reach their own potential, due to for example, ADHD, and are seeking empowerment in finding personal approaches and strategies to overcome their challenges and harness their stengths.
What a coach does ...

- stimulates thinking
- inspires self understanding, awareness and insight

- enables fulfilling personal potential and strengths
What a coach does not do ...
- become the expert of their client
- tell the client what to do
- offer the answers, or solutions and strategies
- diagnose, treat or support mental health struggles
(although improved mental and emotional health is often a benefit of coaching outcomes)

Coaching FAQs
How does it differ from counselling & therapy?
How does it differ from counselling & therapy? The simplest distinction is that counselling generally focuses more on understanding and working through emotional difficulties, while coaching generally focuses more on achieving goals, developing capabilities and moving forward. There is much overlap, however, and indeed elemenst of a cousnellig session will be similar to elemens of a coaches session - after all happiness in yourself, your home life, your workplace and your life goals can only come from good self-awareness of what makes you both happy and sad - ultimtaely what matches your beliefs and values. Some believe that counselling is about the past and coaching about the future, but at Rutland Therapists we believe both touch on the now, the past and the future, it's just coaching doesn't dig deep into past experiences and most certainly doesn't seek to help with trauma, loss, depression or mental disorders
